This is Lorelei

In 2024, New York artist Nate Amos released his label debut, Box for Buddy, Box for Star, under the moniker This Is Lorelei. The record earned widespread acclaim from outlets like Rolling Stone and Pitchfork, marking a pivotal moment in Amos’ prolific career. Following a breakthrough with his band Water From Your Eyes, Amos is set to release the Box for Buddy, Box for Star Super Deluxe on April 17th. This expanded edition features reimagined versions of every track by a stellar lineup of peers, including Hayley Williams, SASAMI, Momma, Jeff Tweedy, and Waxahatchee. Amos, who has self-released hundreds of "diary entry" songs since 2012, designed this album as his first intentional full-length work. Written in 2022 during a period of sobriety and isolation in Brooklyn, the record balances traditional pop songcraft with "shitpost-y" irony. Sonically, it weaves together country-inspired bluegrass—a nod to his father—with electronic curveballs like the auto-tuned "Dancing in the Club." At its heart, the album explores the duality of personal growth. The title contrasts a "coffin for the past" (Box for Buddy) with a "music box for the future" (Box for Star). Through "aggressive self-reflections" on tracks like “Where’s Your Love Now,” Amos offers a radically candid look at transformation, emerging from a personal hell with a work that is both illuminating and delightfully unfussy.
